The Children’s Agenda has long advocated for a universal child care system, and we celebrate Governor Kathy Hochul’s historic announcement yesterday of substantial funding commitments which will accelerate statewide progress towards universal child care and universal Pre-Kindergarten. Our recent poll shows that nearly every New York voter who is considering having children is concerned about the costs of raising kids, and the cost of child care is a major stressor for 61% of parents, especially parents of color and those in New York City.
72% of voters across party lines agree that New York State should spend more to make child care more affordable. We applaud the Governor for her bold proposal and continued commitment to supporting New York’s youngest children and families. We look forward to working with policymakers to enact the legislation needed to realize this vision and to make New York a more affordable place to start and raise a family.
