Goal: Make quality child care more affordable for New York families by streamlining enrollment in the state’s child care assistance program to increase participation.
Solution: Families could establish their categorical eligibility for child care assistance by demonstrating enrollment in another program, such as SNAP or WIC, avoiding duplicative data collection and reducing administrative costs.
Why It Works: Categorical eligibility would reduce the paperwork for families to enroll in benefits they already qualify for and for which there is already government verification of their eligibility.
The Children’s Agenda advocates for effective policies and drives evidenced-based solutions for the health, education and success of children. We are especially committed to children who are vulnerable because of poverty, racism, health inequities and trauma.
