Like with any organization, the question of when The Children’s Agenda began is a story of evolution rather than a single moment. In 2002, The Children’s Agenda first came on the scene as a volunteer research and education group focused on preventing cuts to children’s services in the Monroe County budget.
Two years later, in 2004, with funding from the Rochester Area Community Foundation and Halcyon Hill Foundation, offices, and their first two employees, The Children’s Agenda was incorporated as a non-profit organization in New York.
Now it’s 2024 and we are stronger than ever. Our work has expanded to include local, state and national advocacy.
Our priority areas are Early Intervention & Preschool Special Education, child care, PK-12 education, child health, child poverty, and racial equity.
We have been appointed by the Governor to state commissions, co-authored legislation with elected officials, and are frequently invited to testify in Albany. Powered by parents and community members, we remain firmly rooted in Rochester.
With community members like you as partners, we are ready to power up for the next 20 years! Together, we can make sure…
…Early Intervention providers are there when kids need them!
…child care is abundant, affirming, rewarding and truly for all!
…schools are positive, equitable places to learn!
…there is less poverty and more joy!
…and all kids thrive!
