Parents Have Power

For more than a decade, parents have been a guiding force at The Children's Agenda. From helping us prioritize which policies we advocate for to persuading public officials to enact those policies, parents' voices and experiences are a source of expertise.

Parents know what their children are experiencing at home and in school. They know what would help their children thrive. By working together, we can turn private challenges into public issues. By combining lived experience with data, we can speak to policymakers' heads and hearts.

Four years ago we took parent leadership to a new level by hiring a full-time staff member, Carmen Torres, who is dedicated solely to organizing parents and community members.

Since then, we have:

  • Expanded our organizing staff
  • Recruited 50+ parent leaders to our Very Invested Parents (VIP) advocacy group
  • Taken 7 busloads of parents to Albany to meet with legislators
  • Brought 3 parent leaders onto our Board of Directors

Members of our Very Invested Parents advocacy group meet monthly and engage in action between meetings. Interested in getting involved with the group? Fill out the form by clicking the button below and Carmen Torres will be in touch to welcome you and tell you how to join the next meeting!
