This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Children’s Agenda, and I’m proud to report that we are having more impact improving the lives of children and families than ever before. From child poverty to exclusionary discipline in schools, from the County legislature to the State legislature, The Children’s Agenda makes a huge difference in the health, education and well-being of our children.
In this year’s state budget, New York had an opportunity to transform how we care for children. However, this largely did not happen and so the work goes on.
So far this year, our staff have taken part in more than 50 testimonies, legislative briefings, and meetings with the Governor’s office, state legislators and administration officials.
It’s not only our staff who influence legislators. Our parent leaders and people from throughout the community are a force to be reckoned with when they go to Albany!
The kind of change The Children’s Agenda works toward requires that people engage in democracy. That’s why, over the past three years, we have tripled our staff whose primary focus is on community organizing.
In January we saw the power of community organizing in action at our Story Lab on Solutions Not Suspensions.
It's our birthday! The Children's Agenda was officially incorporated in 2004 so it's time to celebrate.
From a volunteer research and education group to a staff of 16, The Children's Agenda has grown. While our work has expanded, our purpose remains the same: improving the well-being of children through evidence-based public policies.
